The short answer
Delhi needs a full-sleeve, full-length night suit with a robe on top, because winter nights average about 7°C and cold spells reach 3–4°C. Mumbai needs something light and breathable, because nights stay around 19–21°C and the real chill comes from the AC. Bangalore sits in between: nights of roughly 15–16°C, damp mornings, and a full-length suit with an optional robe is enough.
One honest caveat before the picks: satin is not an insulating fabric. It works best as the middle layer, and the warmth comes from what you wear under and over it.
Winter nightwear by city: the quick comparison
| City | Typical winter night | Daytime | What your nightwear has to do | Start with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delhi | About 7°C; cold spells 3–4°C | About 18–22°C, foggy mornings | Cover arms and legs fully, leave room to layer | Majestic Fur Night Suit + Fuzzy Black Robe |
| Mumbai | About 19–21°C; a few mornings 14–16°C | About 28–31°C, humid | Stay breathable, handle air conditioning | 3 Piece Robe Set or a cotton set |
| Bangalore | About 15–16°C; rare snaps near 10–12°C | About 27–28°C | Full length, light layer optional | Refreshing Fur Satin Night Suit |
Figures are typical winter ranges drawn from IMD-reported data and weather normals (sources at the end). Actual nights vary year to year.
Delhi: 4–8°C nights, fog and cold floors
Delhi has the harshest winter nights of the three. An early-January night is normally around 7°C by IMD figures, the plains are declared under a cold wave once the minimum falls to 4°C, and one recent January saw 1.1°C at the Safdarjung observatory. Days hover near 20°C, mornings are often foggy, and bedroom floors stay cold long after the sun is up.
What works: full sleeves and full-length pants, with a roomy enough cut to wear over a thin thermal inner if you feel cold easily. Put a plush robe on top. A fuzzy robe holds more air than a smooth satin one, so it adds noticeably more warmth.
What to skip in January: shorts sets, spaghetti-strap tops and the 3-piece sets are fine in a heated room, but they leave too much bare skin on an unheated Delhi night.
More full-sleeve colours: Appealing (baby pink), Refreshing (mint) and Glossy, all ₹2,499.
“A very new and different colour night suit. I really liked the soft fur and satin fabric.”

Mumbai: it's the AC and the humidity, not the cold
Mumbai's winter nights average around 19–21°C after days near 30°C, and humidity stays high even in the dry season. On a handful of mornings the city dips to 14–16°C (one December morning hit 13.7°C), which is when most people suddenly go looking for a robe. For the rest of the season the thing you are actually managing is a cold bedroom with the AC on.
What works: 3/4 sleeves or a short top with a robe you can add and remove. A shorts-and-top set under a robe lets you adjust through the night without changing.
An honest note: a full-length satin suit can feel sticky in humid weather. If you tend to sweat at night, choose cotton instead. The Cotton Collection is the place to start, and the Minimal Luxe Short Nighty (cotton-lycra, half sleeves, ₹1,799) is a light option for AC nights.
Bangalore: cool, damp mornings and the odd 10°C night
Bangalore's normal December night is about 16°C and January about 15°C, with days near 27–28°C. Morning humidity is high, around 88%, so the early hours feel colder and damper than the number suggests. Cold snaps do happen: December 2024 was forecast to bring the coldest December night since 2010, near 10°C. Most of the season, though, is mild.
What works: a full-length suit in any sleeve length, and a robe by the bed for the cool, damp hour after you wake up. You do not need heavy winter sleepwear here. If a cold snap arrives, the fuzzy robe from the Delhi list covers it.

Which fabric actually keeps you warm? An honest answer
| Layer | How warm | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Satin night suit | Light. Smooth satin does not trap much heat, so it feels cool when you first get in bed. | The middle layer in Delhi, the main layer in Bangalore |
| Cotton or cotton-lycra | Light to moderate, and it breathes. | Mumbai, and anyone who sweats at night |
| Fuzzy or plush robe | Moderate to high. The pile holds air close to the body. | Delhi evenings, and cold snaps anywhere |
| Thermal inner | Highest of the four. Velure's satin sets are not thermal wear. | Under a satin suit on the coldest Delhi nights |
How to layer satin nightwear in winter: four steps
- Base (optional): a thin thermal inner, only if you feel the cold easily or you are in Delhi in January.
- Middle: the full-sleeve, full-length satin night suit. Choose a roomy cut or go one size up if there is a thermal underneath.
- Top: a fuzzy robe, tied at the waist, for the walk to the bathroom and the first hour after waking.
- Feet: socks. Cold feet are what keeps most people awake, and no night suit fixes that.

Questions people ask about winter nightwear in India
What should women wear to sleep in winter in India?
It depends on the city. In Delhi, wear a full-sleeve, full-length night suit with a robe over it, because winter nights average about 7°C and can fall to 3–4°C. In Mumbai, nights stay around 19–21°C, so a breathable 3/4-sleeve set or a cotton set plus a light robe is enough. In Bangalore, nights are around 15–16°C, so a full-length satin or cotton night suit with an optional robe works.
Is satin nightwear warm enough for winter in Delhi?
Not on its own. Satin is a smooth fabric that does not trap much heat, so a satin night suit works best as the middle layer in Delhi: a thin thermal inner underneath if you feel cold easily, the full-sleeve satin suit in the middle, and a fuzzy or plush robe on top.
What is the best winter nightwear for Mumbai?
Something light and breathable. Mumbai winter nights are mild and humid, so choose a 3/4-sleeve night suit, a cotton set, or a 3-piece set with shorts and a robe that you can add when the air conditioning is on or on the few mornings that dip to 14–16°C.
Do you need winter nightwear in Bangalore?
A little. Bangalore winter nights average roughly 15–16°C, with damp mornings and rare cold snaps near 10–12°C. A full-length night suit with an optional robe is enough for most of the season, and you do not need heavy winter sleepwear.
How do I layer a satin night suit in winter?
Start with an optional thin thermal inner, wear the full-sleeve satin night suit over it, add a fuzzy robe on top, and finish with socks. Choose a roomy fit or go one size up if you plan to wear a thermal underneath.
How much does winter nightwear cost at Velure?
